The Portal Effect: A New Way to Record Our MR Games
We might have found a new way to record our mixed reality games. What do you think of the portal effect?
The clip shows Elven Arrows, our mixed reality archery co-op. Two players, one real room, and their own furniture as the level. The game scans the space and rebuilds it as a fantasy realm, so no two rooms play the same. No teleport, no thumbstick — both players simply walk.
To film it, one of us joined as a third headset that does nothing but record. It captures the passthrough view through Meta’s Camera API and the virtual view at the same time, and the two are masked into each other afterwards. No external camera, no green screen.
